Rescue Me ID: 17-02-23-00306Skye (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET SKYE-7 year old male Husky/Shepherd Mix We have been waiting a long time to share Skye's story. Skye came to Wild Dog Rescue nearly 4 years ago. He came to us with his mate, Karma, from the Chicago area. There they were found living near a dumpster at a horse race track, a common dumping grounds for animals. Skye and Karma were inseparable at the time, however, Karma's life was cut short due to bone cancer, and Skye has been lost since. The only security he knew was gone. He didn't trust us and was very unsure about other dogs. It has taken time and a lot of patience, but Skye has found that we aren't such bad people after all. And he ... (Read More)has even made several 4 legged friends along the way. We believe that with the right person, a lot of love and even more patience, Skye will make a great companion. He loves toys and we can even take him on walks now. He will require a fenced in yard, one at least 5 feet high. And he will not be able to go to a family with children. He will need to be in a house, so no apartments or condos for this boy. Skye is very picky and choosey about his 4 legged friends. He seems to prefer females over males, but even then, he is picky. If we could find the right match, another dog would serve as a security blanket for him and help him adjust to being a companion. Adopting Skye will take time, and probably several visits. Your opinion of this handsome guy cannot be properly formed with just one visit. He is a special guy with a sweet sweet soul. Please remember, from what we know, he has never known the love and acceptance of a human before coming here to WDR. He needs time. What he doesn't need is to spend the rest of his life in a kennel, not knowing what a dog's life should really be like. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dixie's story is one that we at WDR do not come across very often. Her journey began as long term boarding, but has now turned into abandonment. Dixie has been waiting for over 2 and a half months and would really like to be back in a home. She is 6 years old, spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. She does well with most other dogs and loves adults and children. Dixie will need a home with a fenced in yard, as she does have a lot of energy to burn off. She would be a great fit for an active family and makes an excellent running partner. If you can find it in your heart and your home to give this girl the love she deserves please take a ... Animal ID: 1126Chip (male)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

**UPDATE** Once given a grim outlook, now with the proper nutrition and much needed medication, Chip is a whole new dog! We believe he is ready to have a home of his own. He would do best in a home with someone that is home most of the day. Or a home with a fenced in yard and a doggie door would be a dream come true. He seems to do well with most dogs and would probably do okay with a cat, but no kids. Please keep in mind that he is on prescription food and takes vitamin B drops twice a day and another medication to keep him thriving. These are things we want you to be aware of when considering offering him a home, because they are an added ... (Read More)cost and a necessity for this handsome guy. **ORIGINAL POST** Grab a tissue, you are going to need it! This greying face belongs to a very special guy. A fragile guy who needs you! Chip isn't asking for much, just some love, time and comfort. You see, Chip doesn't have much time left, his frail body is in kidney failure and his time is very limited. Picked up as a stray, it's unknown if he has ever known love and compassion, but he deserves it more than ever now. Chip needs a place where he can live out his last days knowing what it means to be a family pet. He deserves to know the comfort of a warm bed and reassuring touch of a loving hand. We understand the emotional strain that comes with taking in a dog for hospice care, but think about the difference you can make in his life if only for a short time. If you can find it in your heart to open up your home for this guy who needs you more than ever, please let us know. (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Alma (cream) and Tillie (brown) are two great examples of why you have to be careful when purchasing a new dog. Alma and Tillie came from a puppy mill where their only job was to produce puppies for sale. They never received love and affection. They never knew life in a home or a life as a family pet. When they were no longer able to produce a profit they were discarded. That is the sad life of a puppy mill dog. Alma and Tillie have been in rescue now for nearly 5 years, waiting for the chance at a real life and a forever home. Alma is 11 years old and Tillie is 10 years old. These adorable girls will need a home with a very patient person, ... (Read More)as they do not know how to receive affection. They shy away from it, but when they are held they melt in your arms. They also need a home with understanding, as they are not completely housebroken. Alma and Tillie are bonded and because Tillie is nearly blind, she relies on Alma to get around. These two need you! They need that very special person out there with the time and the patience to offer these two girls the life they have never known! They will do best in a home with no children. A home with a fenced in area may be ideal for them. Wild Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on donations for the continued care of the animals. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00156Woody (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Senior

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Woody. This sweet 12 year old boxer/lab mix has lived his entire life at the end of a chain and now is seeking a special retirement home after his owner was placed in a nursing home. There is nothing about Woody that would make you believe he is 12 years old, he is happy and still full of spunk. When we decided to take Woody in at WDR, we did have a few concerns. Will someone be willing to open their hearts and home to an old guy who has never known the comforts of a warm and cozy bed on a frigid Michigan winter night? Will there be the perfect family with enough patience to help this sweet senior enjoy his last few years? And our ... (Read More)biggest concern was recently confirmed, will he be heart worm positive after living outdoors all these years? Woody IS heart worm positive, so now the hunt begins for an even more special family. Woody will undergo treatment, but will need a family that is willing to help him during that recovery time. Finding a home for Woody is URGENT to say the least. He is not doing well in the kennel environment and needs a place and family to call his own. Can you or someone you know find it in their hearts to help this sweet sweet senior? Please consider giving Woody the love, patience and comforts he has never known, but like all dogs, deserves! German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current

This handsome guy has had a rough go of things in his life. Wolfie is an older German Shepherd, who found himself in the pound after being picked up as a stray. We are not sure of an exact age due to his great dental hygiene, but obviously older body. It is obvious that he has lacked a lot of basic care, he is missing fur and is a bit on the skinny side. Wolfie is already on the road to recovery and can't wait to get into a home of his own where he will be loved and cared for. He loves people, but will do best in a home with no small dogs or cats. He will need a family with GSD experience and the patience to help this young guy reach his ... (Read More)full potential. Wolfie does know a few basic commands, such as sit, shake and down.
